Massive accident leaves more than 65 people without life.

The screams began in the darkness.

Metal twisted. Carriages overturned. Sleeping families were thrown violently into chaos before they even understood what was happening.

First came the derailment.

Then came the second train — a speeding force hurtling toward the wreckage, unaware of the horror waiting ahead.

At 3:40 a.m., most passengers aboard the Millat Express were asleep, lulled by the familiar rhythm of the train and trusting the tracks beneath them. In a matter of seconds, that sense of safety vanished.

Near Ghotki, several coaches suddenly derailed, overturning and spilling across the adjacent railway line. Men, women, and children were trapped inside twisted steel, surrounded by darkness, confusion, and cries for help.

But the nightmare was only beginning.

The Sir Syed Express, racing through the night, had no idea what lay ahead. Moments later, it slammed into the derailed coaches with devastating force.

The impact turned an already catastrophic accident into an even greater disaster. Carriages were crushed. Passengers who had survived the initial derailment were suddenly trapped beneath tons of mangled metal.

More than 1,100 people were caught in the disaster.

As dawn broke, rescuers began the painstaking work of searching through the wreckage. With limited equipment and precious time slipping away, they cut, crawled, and clawed their way through twisted compartments in a desperate race to find survivors.

For days, the rescue operation continued.

In the end, 65 people lost their lives.

For those who survived, the journey would never be forgotten. And for the families who lost loved ones, the railway tracks became the final resting place of people who had simply boarded a train expecting to reach their destination.

What happened that night was more than a tragic collision. It raised painful questions about railway safety, infrastructure, warnings, and the failures that can turn a journey home into a fight for survival.
