Bobby Kennedy’s Granddaughter Kyle Kennedy Dies at 42

A Life of Courage and Service: Kyle Kennedy Remembered at 42

Two young boys are now facing life without their mother.

Kyle Kennedy, the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 42, leaving behind a remarkable story defined by profound loss, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. As her family grieves and officials continue to await answers surrounding her death, those who knew her are remembering a woman who repeatedly turned personal tragedy into a reason to fight for others.

According to her obituary, Kyle died on September 21 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts. The town clerk told PEOPLE that her cause of death remains pending.

The daughter of Michael Kennedy and Victoria Denise Gifford, Kyle experienced devastating loss from an early age. She was just 13 when her father died in a skiing accident. Despite the tragedy, she went on to build a life centered on education, opportunity, and service.

After graduating from Georgetown University, Kyle joined Teach For America, dedicating herself to education. She later earned graduate degrees from Pace University and Harvard University. Much of her professional life focused on creating greater opportunities for children, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, as well as advocating for people living with disabilities.

In 2020, Kyle suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left her with long-term paralysis. Rather than allowing the injury to silence her, she became an outspoken advocate for patients facing discrimination and inequality in medical care. She even testified at the Massachusetts State House, using her own experiences to push for change and greater awareness.

Her life was also marked by another heartbreaking loss. Kyle endured the death of her daughter, Josephine, who died shortly after birth.

Through unimaginable grief and adversity, Kyle continued to advocate for others.

She leaves behind her two sons, Conor, 12, and Declan, 10, as well as her mother, siblings, and extended family.

Her passing leaves behind a family mourning an irreplaceable mother, daughter, sister, and advocate. But the legacy she leaves is one of courage and compassion — a life devoted to education, equality, and standing beside people who faced barriers of their own.

Kyle Kennedy’s story is ultimately not defined only by the tragedies she endured, but by the lives she sought to improve despite them.
