Hidden Math of a Simple Shirt

The internet nearly LOST its mind over a shirt.

No logo.
No hidden message.
No complicated trick.

Just one deceptively simple question:

“How many holes are in this shirt?”

What looked like a child’s puzzle quickly turned into a battlefield of comments, arguments, and second-guessing. People counted. Recounted. Defended their answers. Then discovered they had completely missed what was right in front of them.

At first, the answer seemed obvious: 4 holes — the neck, the waist, and the two sleeves.

Simple. Done.

Except… not even close.

Then people noticed the strange cutouts scattered across the fabric. Those six openings weren’t merely patterns or decorations. They went through both the front and back of the shirt, meaning each cutout created two holes.

And suddenly, everything changed.

6 cutouts × 2 openings = 12 holes.

Add the shirt’s original 4 openings…

4 + 12 = 16 holes.

And just like that, the answer went from “obviously four” to sixteen.

That’s what made this puzzle so addictive. It wasn’t difficult math. It was a test of perception.

The real trap wasn’t the shirt.

It was how quickly our brains decided we had already seen everything.

Sometimes, the simplest questions are the ones that reveal just how easily we can overlook what’s right in front of us.
